Pasco Real Estate

Summary of Pasco , Washington

Pasco , one of three cities comprising the Tri-Cities, is situated at the convergence of the Columbia and Snake Rivers .  Pasco is recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Washington .  Pasco ’s cultural diversity, affordable housing and central location make it an enticing place to call home.

Pasco Real Estate - City History

Pasco has historic significance with its association with the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  It was in October 1805 with their American Indian guide, Sacagawea, that they camped here for several days of exploration.  Today that area is commemorated as Sacagawea State Park and can be found on the eastern outskirts of Pasco just over the Snake River Bridge .

In the mid 1880s, Northern Pacific Railroad established Pasco as a central shipping hub for foreign and domestic trading.   Pasco received its name from a Northern Pacific Railroad construction engineer, Virgil G. Bogue.  He named the city after a mining town, Cerro de Pasco, in the Andes of Peru.  It wasn’t long until settlers were attracted to Pasco for it’s mild climate, fertile soil for farming, availability of water for irrigation and fishing and its accessibility for trading and transportation by river or railway.

Finally, the city was incorporated September 3, 1891 . Pasco was a small town, but once the Grand Coulee Dam was completed in 1941, irrigation was possible to establish larger farms and orchards.  The revitalized agriculture industry created a population boom, resulting in the foundation for what Pasco is today.  Now with a commercial airport, river barges, railway, commercial bus lines and long-haul trucking, Pasco continues to be an integral part of transporting people and goods to national and international ports of call.

Pasco Real Estate - Area Attractions

Every year between May and October, Pasco area farmers showcase their goods at the Pasco Farmers Market in the downtown area.  People come from miles around to purchase their favorite fresh produce and baked goods.  The month of September is fully anticipated for the annual Fiery Foods Festival.  There is something there for all ages to enjoy.  And on Cinco de Mayo, the heart of Pasco ’s downtown comes alive with a parade and fiesta to celebrate its rich Hispanic culture.

If it is the great outdoors you are looking for, Pasco is the place for you.  There are 20 soccer fields; 8 softball fields; 7 baseball parks; and a 10-lane, all-weather running track capable of hosting state-level football and track events.  Walkers, runners and bicyclists can take advantage of Pasco ’s great weather and scenery by utilizing the Sacagawea Heritage Trail.  It is a 22+ mile loop around the Tri-Cities and is an interactive trail where indigenous plants and animals can be observed.

Pasco is home to their very own Class A minor league professional baseball team, The Tri-City Dust Devils, which play in their own stadium.  Nearby is the TRAC facility where conventions, expos and concerts are held.  The TRAC facility is widely renowned for holding professional level indoor rodeos and motocross competitions.

Pasco has two great golf courses - Pasco Golfland and Sun Willows Golf Course.  Due to the mild climate, these courses remain open year round.

For enjoying  the great outdoors, Pasco is a gem.  There are several boat launches to choose from to enter the Columbia River or Snake River .  Tri-Citians take advantage of the area’s annual 300 plus days of sunshine to boat, water ski, jet ski, swim and windsurf.  Fishing for salmon, steelhead and large-mouth bass is a popular past-time.

Part of Pasco ’s vast area is the wildlife that abounds on the islands, riverbanks and uninhabited tundra.  Quail, Canadian Geese and the Blue Heron are just some of the birds that can be seen and admired.  Deer, badger and coyotes are also part of Pasco ’s natural habitat.  The McNary Wildlife Refuge can be visited to observe the many protected species of animals that live within the 15,000 acres of wetlands, desert and the Columbia , Snake and Walla Walla Rivers.

Pasco Real Estate - Demographics

Pasco has set itself apart from many of the State’s eastern cities by offering affordable, quality homes and well-appointed neighborhoods.  Many builders in and outside of the Tri-Cities were attracted to the endless possibilities of constructing various types of subdivisions and sprawling river front dwellings.  There are many choices for new and established residents of Pasco to find their dream home.  The vast choices in single family residential homes include southwestern themed townhouses, uptown styled rowhouses, neat and attractive mid-priced rambler and multi-story homes, exquisite executive custom homes, historical homes, mini and working ranches and farms are readily available.

Pasco ’s population is estimated to be over 44,000.  The ethnic breakdown of the city, as reported in 2005 by the Washington State Office of Financial Management, is as follows:
